Individual Basketball Training

-Individual workouts are intense 1 on 1 skill development sessions designed to meet the needs of each individual athlete based on their current skill level, position played and basketball season (pre-season, in-season or off-season). It’s very simple, successful basketball players at any level are able to execute basic fundamentals under the pressure of game conditions.  In every workout the concept is to take that pressure multiply it through various training methods, encourage athletes to get out of their comfort zones and make mistakes as a learning and developmental process.  All fundamental aspects of the game are included: shooting, ballhandling, passing, offensive and defensive footwork, rebounding, moving without the ball, creating space with the dribble, handling pressure, decision making, etc.  All sessions are a minimum of 60 minutes.

 Group Basketball Training

-Group workouts are skill development sessions in groups of 2 – 8 athletes.  They contain the same fundamental curriculum and training concepts as the individual workouts and generate an extremely high level of intensity and productivity due to the competition factor of multiple athletes.   Current skill and experience level are taken into consideration when designing and implementing these sessions.  In most cases, perspective clients are responsible for finding partners of comparable level and abilities. All group sessions are a minimum of 60 minutes.

 Team Basketball Training

-Team workouts are high level skill development sessions geared toward a group of athletes competing in a team environment.  Teams rarely focus on individual skill development; primarily focusing their attention on offensive/defensive systems.  The best of those systems are ineffective without execution of proper fundamental skills.  These sessions are designed with both guard and post development along with consideration for style of play and current team concepts/philosophies.  Youth, high school, AAU/Club organizations and college programs are all currently benefiting from this area of training.  Team workouts have the option of 60 or 90 minute sessions.

 Written Basketball Workouts

-Written workouts are skill development workouts put on paper so an athlete can train on their own and feel comfortable they are spending their time wisely.  One of the most common reasons players fail to improve is “wasted time”.  Without a planned workout most athletes tend to just “shoot around” or fall into meaningless activity that is extremely inefficient.   “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail”.  Written workouts are individually designed to meet the request of an athlete’s wants or needs. Ex. Shooting/Ballhandling Workout with an emphasis on shots off the dribble and weak hand development.

Video Shot Analysis/Evaluation

-Video shot analysis/evaluation is the process of videotaping an athlete’s shot in a variety of game conditions to evaluate mechanics and footwork.  It is an extremely valuable tool in finding flawed technique that is difficult to detect with the naked eye.  In addition many athletes are visual learners and this method allows them the benefit of seeing themselves in action.  A detailed written evaluation and a dvd of the video is provided along with shooting drills that address any concerns identified in the analysis.

Video Game Analysis/Evaluation

-Video game analysis/evaluation is the process of analyzing and evaluating an athlete’s overall performance, strengths and weaknesses, and basketball I.Q. in game conditions.  It is an extremely effective teaching method as many athletes are visual learners and this allows them the opportunity to see themselves in action.  In many cases this can be an eye opening experience for athletes who have developed poor habits and tendencies that they are unaware of.  As coaches always say “the video doesn’t lie”.  A detailed written evaluation is provided along with a dvd of  “positive/negative” game clips that the athlete can refer back to and study.  Athletes are responsible for providing game film.  For an additional charge, arrangements can be made for videotaping to be done by Geoff Golden Basketball.
